Overview

Established in 1982 this lodge offers a unique fishing lodge atmosphere with an excellent international reputation for providing guests with intimate friendly service, the best of food and wine, private exclusive accommodation and the best guided trout fishing and out door activities in the world.

The lodge has two open wood burning fire places with comfortable lounges, fully stocked bar and two separate dinning rooms. As you enter the main lodge our guests will walk through the hall of fame where photos of dozens of past guests and their trophy trout adorn the walls including several famous actors, the who’s who of world trout fishing, and past Presidents and Prime Ministers of the USA and Australia.

After a day white water rafting, hiking, skiing, playing golf or fly-fishing the lodge guests can enjoy our onsite spa pool, receive a massage from our masseuse or play tennis on the all weather court. For those who are more adventurous, the lodge can arrange helicopter fly fishing and hiking with a pickup from the onsite helipad.

Location

The lodge is situated on the banks of the Tongariro, a legendary trout fishing river, and is spread over 22 acres of stunning park-like grounds at the southern end of Lake Taupo. From Taupo Airport by car is approximately 30 minutes drive and the lodge is just 30 minutes from the ski fields.

Room Information

Guest accommodation is separate from the main Lodge. This ensures maximum privacy. Riverside executive chalets range from one to five bedrooms. Each executive chalet has private facilities and its own secluded sunny terrace with views of the Tongariro River or the mountains.

The lodge has developed an international reputation for fine food and wine. The Lodge specializes in serving the best of New Zealand game and traditional foods.

The true atmosphere of the Lodge is best experienced in front of an open fire over a four course evening meal as the day's activities are recounted - and stories get taller as the evening wears on.

Breakfast and luncheon are provided at your leisure. Hamper lunches are one of our specialties.

Guided trout fishing is the lodges specialty and the who’s who of world fly fishing have stayed at the lodge along with many famous celebrities.

Being at the foot of the World Heritage Tongariro National Park the lodge activities also include New Zealand's most popular guided one day walk the Tongariro Alpine Crossing, guided heli-hiking and scenic walks, guided white water rafting, mountain biking, heli-sightseeing, snow skiing, international golf courses, horse trekking, 4 x 4 biking, massage and thermal pools.
